Redesign and improvement of user experience on web platform

The Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities is an international organization created in 1982.
It brings together capital cities and other large cities in Ibero-America. Its main objective is to promote cooperation among these cities, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices to address common challenges.
the challenge
The Unión de Ciudades Capitales Iberoamericanas (UCCI) web platform required an update of its web platform to improve accessibility, optimize navigation and modernize the user experience, all while maintaining its corporate identity. We focused on three key areas:
Architecture and navigation: We simplify navigation flows to facilitate quick access to information.
Content update: We made key pages more accessible and understandable, adapting the content to the needs of the end user.
Interactive project map: We redesigned the interface and managed the upload of new projects, improving the visibility of cooperation initiatives.
Understanding and definition
During the initial phase, we conducted a thorough audit of the pages involved in the project to understand their content and structure. From this analysis, we identified opportunities to improve the format and narrative, proposing a clearer and more effective approach.
We held several meetings with the client to make sure we captured their needs and expectations. This allowed us to define which elements to eliminate and which new contents to add, adjusting the project according to their requirements.

We redesigned the navigation tree and flows: We unified pages with similar content, eliminated those without added value and created new pages to better explain certain key ideas.
We defined the new content architecture on each page: We simplified and reorganized texts to make information more accessible and easy to understand, which optimized navigation and improved user experience.
Design
After understanding the client's needs, we designed an interface that preserved UCCI's corporate identity, but with a more modern and efficient navigation.
Among the tasks performed, the following stand out:
Wireframes and mockups: We designed wireframes and mockups of key sections such as Home, About Us, Organization and Training and Committees, prioritizing simplicity of content and ease of navigation.
Map of cooperation projects:
We redesigned to modernize the map interface to make it more intuitive and easier to explore.
We improved the interactive filters so that users could search for projects more efficiently.
We redesigned the template of the project pages, giving them a clearer and more modern image.

One of the main technical challenges was to implement the new interactive map for the Cooperation projects, adapting to the existing technology stack to ensure robust and scalable solutions.
Visual and functional improvements were made using PHP, JavaScript and CSS, focusing on optimizing both performance and user experience. The main tasks included:

We ensure a smooth experience on mobile devices, improving the adaptability of the interface...
We made important adjustments to the project page to improve the presentation and organization of information.
We also carried out the layout of the new pages created, and adjusted the content of some existing sections, ensuring a seamless integration with the new functionalities.

The redesign of the UCCI platform had a significant impact on several key aspects:
Improved accessibility and understanding of content: By simplifying and better structuring the main pages, we facilitate navigation and improve the end-user experience.
Modernization of the corporate image: The new interface, more professional and cleaner, faithfully reflects UCCI's institutional identity, reinforcing its digital presence.
Improved interactivity on the project map: Map optimization allows users to explore projects more intuitively, which increased dwell time and improved overall interaction with the platform.
